Financial Intelligence: Stop Guessing and Start Growing
Most people want Financial Freedom, but few have the “Intel” to actually get there. Welcome to FIbyFI—Financial Independence by Financial Intelligence. We’ve traded the confusing jargon and the dodgy forum “tips” for a clear, UK-focused roadmap. You’ve done the guessing; now it’s time to do the math.

Why I Started this Blog
When I first started my journey toward Financial Freedom, I didn’t just hit a “brick wall” – I hit a massive, Victorian-era, Grade II listed fortification.
I quickly realised that most “best-selling” finance advice was written for an audience across the pond. I spent weeks trying to figure out if I could open a Roth IRA at my local Barclays (spoiler: you can’t) and wondering why everyone was obsessed with “401(k) matching” when I just wanted to know if my workplace pension was actually a black hole for my hard-earned cash.
The UK-specific info that did exist was… well, let’s be polite. It was scattered across websites that looked like they were designed in 1998, jargon-heavy podcasts that felt like eavesdropping on a conversation between two actuaries, and anonymous forum posts where “Dave42” and “MoneyMinder99” argued passionately about the tax implications of a 1974 postage stamp collection.
I had no choice but to the do the hard yards which means you don’t have to. I’ve literally spent hundreds of hours:
- Translating “Wall Street” to “The City”: Converting US strategies into actual UK ISA and SIPP reality.
- Making the Mistakes: Like the time I thought I was a “trading genius” for buying a stock that immediately tanked 40% (turns out, “hope” is not a viable investment strategy).
- Assimilating the Data: Turning chaotic forum threads into a clear, actionable roadmap.
I suppose that makes me a Wayfarer. I’ve cleared the brush, fought the jargon-monsters, and mapped out the trail. This site is your compass.
Choose Your Intelligence Level
The journey to Financial Independence isn’t about luck; it’s about Intel. Whether you’re currently hiding from your banking app or you’re busy calculating the tax drag on your global all-cap fund, there is a briefing room waiting for you.
Pick your current mission profile:
- Defensive Intelligence – For those currently in the “financial trenches.”
- The Mission: Neutralising debt, building a “Life Happens” emergency fund, and mastering the art of the budget (without living exclusively on 19p instant noodles)
- The Vibe: “I want to stop worrying about the boiler breaking and start worrying about my future.”
- Key Intel: Debt demolition, the £1,000 safety net, and tracking your spending without losing your soul.
- Offensive Intelligence – For those ready to stop playing “not to lose” and start playing to win.
- The Mission: Maximising the gap between what you earn and what you spend. We’re talking career climbing, side hustles that don’t suck, and making sure HMRC doesn’t get a penny more than they’re legally entitled to.
- The Vibe: “My foundations are solid; now I want to supercharge the engine.”
- Key Intel: Salary negotiation, the “Side Hustle” reality check, and the glorious world of UK tax efficiency.
- Investment Intelligence – For those ready to let their money do the heavy lifting for once.
- The Mission: Turning your savings into a self-sustaining wealth machine. This is where we translate “City-speak” into plain English—focusing on the holy trinity of UK investing: ISAs, SIPPs, and low-cost Index Funds.
- The Vibe: “I’ve realised my bank’s ‘High Interest’ account is actually a joke, and I’m ready to meet the Stock Market.”
- Key Intel: Compound interest magic, the “Set and Forget” portfolio, and why fees are the silent killers of dreams.
- Exit Intelligence – For those within five years of telling their boss exactly what they think of the Monday morning “Sync.”
- The Mission: Engineering the Great Escape. We focus on the “Safe Withdrawal Rate,” the 4% rule, and building an “Income Ladder” so you don’t have to sell stocks during a market dip.
- The Vibe: “I can smell the freedom, but I need to make sure the parachute actually opens.”
- Key Intel: The 4% Rule (UK Edition), bridging the gap to your state pension, and tax-free withdrawal strategies.
